Ellen Jacobson Hoversten
7 June 1857 --- 15 October 1948

Miss Ellen Hoversten, daughter of Jacob and Ellen Hoversten, was born in Stavanger, Norway, June 7th, 1857, and passed away Thursday, October 14th, 1948 at the Sunset Home in Story City at the age of 91 years, four months and seven days.

Her father passed away when she was 11 years old, and at the age of 13 she accompanied her mother, brothers and sisters to America, coming to Marshall County, Iowa where they lived one year before settling in Story County.

With the exception of nine years spent in South Dakota, most of her life was spent in Roland and with the Joe Tokheim family at Eagle Grove.

Being the remaining survivor of her immediate family of twelve children, Miss Hoversten remained alert and active until her last illness.

In August 1946 she entered the Sunset Home and Story City where she passed away at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14th.

She leaves to mourn her death five nieces, Mrs. Joe Tokheim of Eagle Grove, Mrs. C.C. Anderson of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. J.C. Anfinson of Turlock, Calif., Mrs. Barney Durby and Mrs. C.A. Fagerland of Roland; four nephews, Ben Thorson of Wells, Minn.; William Hoversten of St. Paul, Minn., Henry and Elmer Hoversten of Ames, and a large number of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Miss Ellen Hoversten were held Monday afternoon with prayer service at the Sunset Home at 1:15 and at the Salem Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Miss Wilma Tokheim of Eagle Grove sang two songs at the church service.

Pallbearers were Conroy Fagerland, Willard Tokheim, Oliver Johnson, Kermit Molde, Arthur Nyren and Robert Birkeland. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

People from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Thorson and Mrs. Caroline Olson of Wells, MInn.; Mrs. C. C. Anderson of Elmore, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tokheim, Willard and Wilma; and Mrs. Elmer McCollum of Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Boyd of Stanhope.
