Obituary of Mrs. Carrie Borwey

Miss Carrie Maland was born to the parents Helge and Sarah Maland in Ullensvang parish, Hardanger, Norway, on March 6, 1863. She died in her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1936, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 26 days.

She was baptized into Christ in infancy. She came to America with her parents in 1868, crossing the Atlantic ocean in a sailing vessel which took many weeks. The family came to Lee, Ill., later moving to Hamilton county, Iowa, to a farm two miles south of the present location of Jewell. She received instruction and confessed her Christian faith in the Lutheran church at Story City. She was united in marriage to Osmond Borwey, Jan. 5, 1880, in Jewell, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Borwey lived in Jewell until in 1890 when they moved to Eagle Grove. Mr. Borwey passed away from this life Sept. 25, 1901.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Borwey: Amos O [C]., George A., Charles O., and S. Benjamin. Amos died Oct. 27 [26], 1915, George died Aug. 12, 1921 and Charles died Apr. 14, 1894. Now she is survived by one son, Benjamin, with whom she made her home. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Thomas and John Borwey, and by two sisters, Mrs. Trudy Hildal, Jewell, Ia., and Mrs. Lena Rentschler, Pilot Mound, Iowa. Two brothers also remain: Eli J. Maland of Long Prairie, Minn., and Henry S. Maland of Jewell, Ia. A large number of relatives and friends mourn her departure.

Mrs. Borwey was a very quiet personality, a kind mother and good neighbor. She loved her God and her church. She passed away quietly and peacefully early New Year's morning. She will be greatly missed.

Her lips are mute; the precious clay
We tender back to earth today;
The spirit to its God has gone,
But mem'ry green shall ever stay.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 3 from the home on East 1st St. No. and from the Evangelical Lutheran church in Eagle Grove. Interment was made in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Trudy Hildal, Howard Hildal, Tobias Maland, Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Maland, Mrs. Henry Hildal, Lars Stangeland, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Stangeland, Mrs. Stewart Sidenstucker, all of Jewell, Iowa; Eli Maland, Miles Maland and Miss Joice Maland of Long Prairie, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rentschler, Pilot Mound, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
