21 October 1913 --- 19 April 1977

Harlan Elwyn Nelson, the son of William and Harriet Arthur Nelson, was born October 21, 1913 at New Leipzig, N.D. He attended school at New Leipzig and graduated from the Puyallup, Wash. High School. On May 29, 1937, he married Margaret Wahlstrom at Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked for the Nash-Finch Wholesale Grocery in Sioux Falls before coming to Webster City where he worked for the Selby Wholesale Grocery. In 1943 they moved to Eagle Grove where he operated the Consumer Grocery and later the Club Cafe. For the last ten years he worked as an inspector for consumer protection in the Iowa Department of Agriculture.

Harlan died Tuesday, April 19 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge after a brief illness at the age of 63 years, five months, and 28 days. Survivors include his wife, one son, Richard Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn., and one daughter, Mary (Mrs. Kenneth) Thorson, Lincoln, Neb.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a charter member of the Lions Club and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Donald Glazier officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
