Ralph Henry Block was born on April 24, 1902 at Renwick, Iowa, the son of Otto and Lottie Kelling Block. He attended school at Renwick, and worked in the Renwick area before his marriage to Anna Nelson at Boone, Iowa on December 27, 1930. The couple returned to the Renwick area where they farmed until coming to Eagle Grove in 1962. He was employed at the Klassie Implement Company at the time of his death at his home on September 21. He suffered an apparent heart attack while asleep. He was the oldest member of his family and the first to pass away.

He is survived by his wife Anna and 6 children: Kenneth J. Robinson, Humboldt; Lowell Robinson, Mason, Mich.; Gary Block, Humboldt; Verna, Mrs. Gerald Kennedy, Humboldt; Avis, Mrs. Edward Wedge, Mason, Mich.; Beverly, Mrs. Wayne Williams, Manhattan, Kansas; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers: Lloyd Block. Centralia, Missouri; Ray Block, Renwick; Bert Block, Allen, Nebraska, 4 sisters: Mrs. Virgil Trotter, Trona, Calif.; Mrs. Clifford Jordanger, Clear Lake, Mrs. Blanche Gilles, Santa Monica, Calif.; Mrs. John Brand, Ft. Dodge.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 23 at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Bernard G. Olson officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
