Martha (Johnson) Fisher (1895-1984)

September 25, 1895 --- April 18, 1984

Martha Fisher, the daughter of Benjamin and Elsie Johnson, was born on Sept. 25, 1895 on a farm in Wright County, near Holmes, Iowa. She attended the rural schools in the Holmes area. She was united in marriage with Carl Fisher on Sept. 26, 1916. The family lived and farmed near Eagle Grove for many years. Mr. Fisher died in 1967. She was a long time member of the Baptist Church and for many years was a very active member. She was also a member of the Know Your Neighbor Club and was a Gold Star Mother. She had been a resident of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove since 1970.

She died at the Rotary Ann Home on Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 1984 at the age of 88 years, six months and 23 days.

She is survived by two sons: Richard Fisher of Dumont and Garland Fisher of Muscatine, a nephew, Roy Fisher Jr. of Eagle Grove, who grew up in the Fisher home; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Eldon, who died in World War II, two brothers, John and Henry Johnson, four sisters, Louise Hansel, Christine Ploud, Mary Johnson and Anna Hansel.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Fisher, of Eagle Grove were held on Sat., April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Roland Beck, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Visitation was held on Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
