Mabel Evelyn Mattise, 85, of 999 Bookcliff, died at 6:20 a.m. Saturday at St Marys Hospital. Mrs. Mattise, a homemaker, had lived in Grand Junction for 26 years. Mabel Evelyn Deeter was born May 22, 1893, at Swan, Iowa, where she spent her childhood. She attended schools at Bussey, Iowa. At Des Moines, Iowa, she and John Matisse were married on April 16, 1913. Mr. Matisse died in 1962 in Grand Junction. Mrs. Matisse was a former resident of Sioux City, Iowa, and Chicago, Ill. She enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Matisse belonged to the First Christian Church of Swan, Iowa. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Eagle Grove, Iowa. Survivors: One daughter, Mrs. Walter (Vanita) Rottman of Grand Junction; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
