Mrs. Wm. Fisher dies July 30 at the age of 96

Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. Fisher were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home with Rev. Emmett Braselton officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Fisher died Sunday afternoon at Bethesda General Hospital, Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient for about a month during her final illness. Had she lived until Sept. 13 she would have been 96 years of age.

She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. John Godfrey of Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Thalia Fairbanks of Moses Lake, Wash., four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fisher was one of the most outstanding women in Eagle Grove history and during her life time had served her city, church, school and library in positions of responsibility and importance.

After giving up the reigns of her own household due to a broken hip 10 years ago, Mrs. Fisher moved to the Rotary Ann Home to become it's fourth resident. During the past few years she had been an infirmary patient.

Obituary

Idabell Cole was born September 13, 1876, at Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Henry S. and Mary Perkins Cole.

The family moved to Eagle Grove in March 1882.

Ida graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1894, and taught in the Eagle Grove schools until her marriage to William Fisher of Eagle Grove, at Emmetsburg, Iowa, on September 26, 1899. The couple lived in the same home in Eagle Grove all of their married life.

Mr. Fisher passed away in 1959 at the age of 86 years, (March 15).

Mrs. Fisher died at the Bethesda General Hospital, Fort Dodge, on Sunday, July 30 at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 17 days.

She is survived by two daughters: Raye, Mrs. John Godfrey, Eagle Grove, and Thalia, Mrs. Mack Fairbanks, Moses Lake, Wash.; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fisher was a member of the First Congregation Church UCC; had been a member of the Equality Club since 1896 and served as president several years; member of the Daughters of The American Revolution; she served 12 years as a member of Eagle Grove Board of Education, several years a president and always retained a deep interest in the schools of Eagle Grove. Served 18 years on the Wright County Board of Education. She was a very active member of the board of the Eagle Grove Public Library for 43 years, much of the time as president.

When School Superintendent Gibson became ill in October, 1951, Mrs. Fisher served as acting Superintendent to complete the term.

She served for 16 years as chairman of the Wright County Society for Aid to Crippled Children, and contributed much time and effort for charity and welfare projects.

For the past 10 years, she was a resident of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove.
