Eagle Grove Eagle --- Eagle Grove, Iowa
October 17, 1918

Gust H. Fisher, the son ot Henry and Anna Fisher, was born on the farm home east of Eagle Grove on July 31, 1896, and died in the hospital at Camp Dodge on Wednesday, October 16, 1918, being a little more than 22 years of age. The deceased grew to young manhood in this community, where he was well known and esteemed by all. On August 28, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Lavina Hamer, who survives, mourning the loss of the one who was the center of her bright dream of the future. Besides his wife Mr. Fisher is survived by his father and mother, by four brothers. Roy Milton of St. James, Minn., Carl Richard and George Milton of Eagle Grove, and Jay Ossian, serving his country in France, and by two sisters, Lillian and Ethel Sophia.

The departed responded to the call of his country expressed in the selective draft on September 6, 1918, going to Camp Dodge. Here he was assigned to Company 59, 15th Battalion, 163rd Depot Brigade. All went well until the scourge of influenza swept over the country and death came after but a few days of sickness. A young life of great promise has been cut short. But a grateful world will recognize his place among those who gave their lives that the world might be free. A circle of friends and acquaintances unusually large is broken, never to be united in the same way. These all extend to the bereaved their most sincere sympathy. Largely attended funeral services conducted by Rev. Hugh F. Moore, were held at the Fisher residence on Sunday at noon. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
