Delmar K. Deischer died on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at his home in Clear Lake, Iowa, at the age of 80.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Clear Lake; son, Dennis R. Deischer, Blue Springs, Missouri; daughter, Penny L. Sandvig, Clear Lake; step-daughter, Sherry Reisetter, and her husband, Leo, Marshalltown, Iowa; one sister, Margie Moore, East Ridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren; one step-grandson; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Delmar Keith Deischer, the son of Ray and Thelma (Smallwood) Deischer, was born on February 17, 1922, on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa, in Wright County. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending country schools and graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines on December 14, 1942. He served in the Pacific during World War II as Ensign 3rd Mate. He was discharged on April 19, 1946. He was married to Margaret Bawn from 1946 to 1976. He married Ruth Johnston on October 1, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in West Des Moines until 1983 and then returned to Clear Lake. He farmed in Eagle Grove, owned a car dealership in Webster City, Iowa, worked for banks in Webster City, Marshalltown, and Des Moines, and worked in commercial real estate in Des Moines. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks, American Legion, and Shriners.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 19, at 10:30 a.m., at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Masonic services were held at 7 p.m., Sunday, August 18, at the funeral home. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa - Mason City, and/or Opportunity Village of Clear Lake.

Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
