Brian A. Nelson, 41, of Latimer passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services for Brian Nelson will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond with Reverend Rodney Meester officiating. Visitation for Brian Nelson will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday.

Brian Allen Nelson was born September 15, 1977 in Belmond, Iowa to Gregory and Dixie (Trampel) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Klemme and graduated from Belmond-Klemme High School with the Class of 1996. During his senior year of high school, he attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, graduating in March of 1996.

Brian was united in marriage to Elisa Lonnevik, they were blessed with sons Lane and Drew. The couple made their home in Meservey, and later in Latimer. The couple later divorced.

Brian was united in marriage to Mary Heldenbrand on June 24, 2017 and welcomed Mary’s three daughters, Samantha, Alex and Erin into his family.

Brian was known for his strong work ethic. He had a variety of jobs over the years. He drove truck and school bus, and bought and sold horses. Later, he owned and operated Latimer Auction and Latimer Meats. He also worked for his ex-father-in-law, Dan Lonnevik, in his farming operation.

Brian was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing, especially when accompanied by his sons. They had recently been on a wild boar hunt in Texas and been on numerous fishing trips over the years.

Brian was diagnosed with liver failure in May of 2015, and received a donor transplant in Iowa City on February 28, 2016. Brian’s family suggests memorial donations be made in Brian’s memory to the Iowa Donor Network.

Brian will be lovingly remembered for his kind heart and sense of humor, along with his blunt, direct way of speaking his mind.

Brian is survived by his wife, Mary Nelson of Latimer; their children Lane Nelson and Drew Nelson of Winterset, Samantha “Bo” Heldenbrand of Latimer, Alex (Josh Miller) Heldenbrand of Clear Lake and Erin Heldenbrand of Latimer; his mother Dixie (Larry) Treinen of Klemme; grandmother Ruth Trampel of Klemme; sister Amy (Eric) Olson and daughters Ella and Emma of Andover, Minnesota; brother Brad (Lindsey) Nelson and sons Cash and Cade of Dumont; step-sisters Alyssa (Robert) Maske and children Hannah, Thomas and Olivia of Pocahontas and Sarah Treinen of Pomeroy; along with extended family members and friends. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Nelson and his grandparents Clarence Trampel, Don Nelson and Ann Nelson.
