Margie Rae Quade
January 18, 1922 ---- June 11, 2019

Margie Rae Quade (Filloon) age 97, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend and wife, passed away on June 11, 2019 at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Margie was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on January 18, 1922, to Russell Filloon and Emily (Baggs) Filloon. Margie attended grade school in Fort Dodge until the family moved to Pocahontas, Iowa. She graduated from Pocahontas Public School in 1940. Later, Margie answered the call during World War II and enlisted in the Women’s Marine Corps Reserve from August 1943 until November 1945. Margie was very proud of her service to her country and spoke fondly of her time spent serving her country in Hawaii and her great adventures with her service friend, Frannie Sullivan. Later, she would revisit the island of Oahu and comment how much the island had changed by the late 1980’s.

After, her service ended Margie returned to Pocahontas and briefly attended Buena Vista College. On June 30, 1947, she married Earl Quade in Pocahontas, Iowa. Earl and Margie would make their home in Havelock, Iowa where they would assist Earl’s mother operating Quade’s Tavern, which they would continue to operate until 1972. Margie worked as clerk in Havelock Post Office for many years. In 1972, she was appointed Postmaster in Plover, Iowa and remained there until she retired in 1989.

Margie was a long time resident of Havelock and for many years was a member of Havelock Amvet Auxiliary and the Ladies Society of Resurrection of the Lord. She was a long time member of the Resurrection of the Lord Church and for many years a Meals on Wheels volunteer transporting meals to Havelock.

Margie was a loyal and devoted friend to many older Havelock residents and for a number of years happily chauffeured good friends to appointments, church and meals at the Family Table in Pocahontas. Over the years Margie corresponded with many friends and family through countless letters keeping us updated on all the happenings in the Havelock and Pocahontas area and with many family members. She truly kept the Plover post office going with her stamp sales through her avid correspondence with friends and family!

In her younger days, Margie loved to read, crochet, embroidery, and listen to music. First and foremost, Margie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan...she loved listening to her Hawks whenever their games were on the radio.

Left to mourn her passing are daughter Diane (Dick) Emahiser of Eden Prairie, MN, daughter Deb Quade of Iowa City, IA, daughter Paula (Bryan) Barrer of Baxter, MN and son Ed (Denise) Quade of Eden Prairie, MN; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Those preceding Margie in death were her parents, husband, Earl, and her siblings, Doyle, Dayton, James (Scoop), Dorothy (Buettner), Bob, Bill, Dick and Dean Filloon as well as in-laws Midge, Virginia, Violet, Bud (Buettner) Therese, and Kay Filloon. Definitely a life well lived...you were the absolute best!
