PIONEER C. N. W. ENGINEER DEAD; KNOWN IN ASHTON
Samuel Wood Will be Buried in Lee County Town Monday.
(Special to the Telegraph)

Ashton, Mar. 25.-- News has been received here of the death of Samuel Wood, a pioneer engineer on the C. & N. W. railroad, at his home in Eagle Grove, Ia. The deceased was believed to be the oldest living engineer in the service of the Northwestern and was retired on a pension in 1918. Mr. Wood was born in Pennsylvania 71 years ago and came west to Illinois in 1860, locating near Oregon.

Later he moved to Ashton where he remained until his marriage to Miss Eliza Mott, when the young couple moved to Eagle Grove, Ia., where he had since made his home. His wife preceded him in death about two years ago. One son, Harry of Charles City, Ia., and a daughter, Mrs. Lottie Shoen of Eagle Grove, survive.

The deceased was a prominent Mason in Eagle Grove, where he became a member of that lodge in 1890. He was a member of the Mystic Shrine of Cedar Rapids. The body will be brought to Ashton [Illinois] Monday morning and taken to the home of his brother, Louis Wood.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Louis Wood residence, Rev. Foard, pastor of the M. E. church officiating and interment will be made in the grave will be in charge of Ashton lodge A. F & A.M.
