Arthur Oziah [Ozias] Boughton, son of Dr. Frank P. and Gertrude Allen Boughton was born near Woolstock, May 20, 1884. In infancy he was received into Baptism, and in his youth united with the Methodist church. His first education was obtained in the schools of Woolstock, where he grew to manhood. Later he became a student of Col. McCollough, a well know Auctioneer of Webster City. At the age of 20 Mr. Boughton held his first sale.

On June 7, 1907 he was united in marriage to Miss Ada May Beshey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Beshey, their wedding taking place at the home of the brides parents.

The couple established their home on a farm west of Woolstock, where two children, Kenneth Frank and Hazel Lerene blessed the home, the home was however saddened when Mrs. Boughton passed away on October 8, 1912.

In 1914 he discontinued farming and entered the farm machinery business, as well as devoting full time to the auction business during the sale season. He was employed by the Advance-Rumley Co., LaPorte, Indiana, as a salesman for more than 20 years, until that company merged with the Allis-Chalmers Corporation, and he continued such work for several years with that company and the Huber Manufacturing Co., until he became a partner of John Chapman, with the Chapman Oil and Implement Co.

For more then 20 years he was a partner of Royal K. Uhr, in the Boughton and Uhr Auction Firm and he with his partner became known as two of the most successful men in that field in Iowa, and were called upon to practice their profession many times in surrounding states.

In June of 1929 he was united in marriage to Bertha Scott, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Scott, Otho, Iowa, their wedding taking place at Ft. Dodge. The couple established their home at Eagle Grove, and the past few years have resided on East Broadway. He and his wife then united with the First Congregational Chruch, and took active interest for many years until his failing health prevented the activity.

For more than 50 years he had continued his Membership with the I.O.O.F. Order, was a Member of the 68 Club, the Modern Woodman, The Illinois Commercial Travelers, and a past Member of the Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce.

For the past 9 years, he has been in failing health and spent much time in several hospitals, however by the medical and loving care of his wife, his life seemed to be prolonged. On May 3rd, he entered the Lutheran hospital at Ft Dodge, where he quietly slept away early Friday, May 21 at the age of 70 years and 1 day.

Surviving Mr. Boughton are his wife Bertha, the son Kenneth F., at Britt; the daughter, Mrs. Hazel Jacobson, Webster City, wife of the late Carl Jacobson. Five grandchildren, (Darlene) Mrs. Donald Baadke, Pomeroy, Iowa; (Lucille) Mrs. Howard Michaelson, Duncombe, Iowa; Martin Jacobson, United States Army, having sailed for Korea, Saturday; (Marvel) Mrs. Donald Sherman, Algona; (Thelma) Mrs. Dr. Theodore Kane, Pennsylvania; and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Melbourn [Melbourne], known as Dornie Boughton, Tucson, Arizona; along with more then 25 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his immediate family, he was preceded m death by three sisters, (Kate) then Mrs. Chris Nelson, Webster City; (Alta) then Mrs. Frank Boden, and also Grace wife of the late Charles Beshey.
