Miss Mary Donovan, 65, died early Sunday morning after a several weeks illness, the result of a fall on April 3rd, in which she sustained a broken hip. About three weeks ago complication set in for which there was no help.

Miss Donovan was a member of one of Eagle Grove’s oldest families, coming here in 1896. Her father, M. K. Donovan was mayor of Eagle Grove from 1903 to 1907. Miss Donovan was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart church and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Obituary

Mary Donovan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Donovan, was born April 26, 1868, in Rippon, Wis., and died Sunday morning, May 14th. She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of a year and a half and they settled in Franklin county. In 1893 they moved to Wright county to their farm 3 miles south of Eagle Grove, and three years later moved to the present Donovan home on So. 2nd St. Miss Donovan’s father died in 1907 and her mother in 1914. She is survived by two sisters, and two brothers; Miss Nell Donovan and Mrs. Robert Miles of Los Angeles, Calif., Louis Donovan of Shelby, Mont., and Bernard Donovan of Portland, Ore. One brother, Dan, died four years ago.

On the third of April she fell down the cellar steps while doing some work at her property on Park Avenue. For the first three weeks she improved daily, and it was thought her recovery would be rapid. Complications set in about three weeks ago which could not be overcome and for the past week she was in a coma. Death came at 6:10 Sunday morning, May 14th.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o’clock at Sacred Heart church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Father Molloy. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery. The Catholic Daughters of America, of which Miss Donovan was a member, attended in a body.

Among those from away who were here for the funeral were Miss Anna Roney and Miss Helen Oaks of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Mary Coffman and daughter Eleanor of Owatonna, Minn., John McGrath of Hampton, Mrs. Ralph Sykora, Yankton, S. D., John Sykora and Ethel Harty of Dante, Miss Genevieve Flynn and Mrs. Harry Chitenden of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Quay Berringer of Hampton and Mrs. Robert Miles and daughter Margaret of Los Angeles, Calif.
