Jean Mattingly Answers Call
Tuesday morning the citizens of Eagle Grove and community were unexpressibly shocked and grieved when they heard that little Jean Mattingly had passed to the Great Beyond.

She had been sick for about three weeks, but was not at any time considered dangerous. She first had the measles, and just as she was recovering bronchitis set in. Monday evening, when the wind changed about six o'clock, pneumonia developed, and at twelve, tired and worn out with the struggle, she gave up the battle, and her little soul went out to its maker.

The funeral was held at the home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Horton came down from Minnesota to conduct the services, which were simple yet beautiful. The house was packed with loving friends, and the great number of beautiful, costly flowers, showed how deeply Jean was loved by all.

Jean was a beautiful, lovable little child. Two years old the sixteenth of last March, she had in her short life, so endeared herself to everyone who knew her that she leaves an empty, aching void in many hearts. In her little white casket, surrounded by beautiful white lilies, she seemed
just asleep. Not gone, but just asleep; to awaken in that city where "the streets shall be full of boys and girls, playing in the streets thereof." She has answered the call of her Master, who said "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the Kingdom of
Heaven."

The pall bearers were Vesta Holman, Dorothy Schaffter, Florence Granger and Katherine Clark; friends of Kathleen, who had loved Jean as a sister.

For the anguished parents, who so idolized their little child, there is felt the deepest sympathy, not much can be said to comfort them in this hour of trial, but the silent unspoken sympathy of every heart goes out to them. Only, time can heal the great wound, but at this bitter time, their friends stand by them, waiting and ready to offer whatever help they can.
