George Raymond Dial (1887-1969)

March 5, 1887 --- November 14, 1969

George Raymond Dial the son of Nels and Priscilla Wickizer Dial was born March 5, 1887, near Gilman, Ill.

He grew up in this area and was educated in the country school. After his schooling, he engaged in farming in the Gilman area.

In 1909, April 3rd, he was united in marriage to Minnie Hacker at Gilman, Ill. To this union, three children were born, all of whom survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Dial moved to Iowa in 1911, coming to farm south of Eagle Grove. After farming for a time, they moved into town where he operated an Ice Co. for 2 years, after which he was employed by The Wright County Roads Department as a heavy equipment operator.

George worked for Wright County a total of 38 years.

Mrs. Dial passed away April 24, 1944.

Mr. Dial had made his home on North Iowa Ave. for the past several years and until suffering a broken hip and being removed, to the Mercy Hospital at Fort Dodge, Iowa on November 1. He died at 2 a.m. on November 14, at the age 82 years, 8 months, and 9 days.

He is survived by his children: Tex A. Dial, Sun Valley, Calif.; Lorraine (Mrs. Harold Mosher) Algona, and Mrs. Louise Farnstrom, Detroit, Mich.; also, a brother, Jess Dial, Kankakee, Ill.; a sister, Eva Dial, Eagle Grove: six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded In death by one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Dial was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and also served on the City Council of Eagle Grove for a number of years.

Funeral services were held Monday. November 17 at 2 p.m. in the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, with Rev. Emmett Braselton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.

George Dial, 82, died Nov. 14 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, where he had been a patient for about two weeks following a broken hip accident on Nov. 1st.

Funeral services were Monday afternoon at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, officiating at the service was Rev. Emmett Braselton. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Dial, a long time employee of Wright County roads department, is survived by one son and two daughters, Tex A. Dial of Sun Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Harold Mosher, Algona, and Mrs. Louise Farnstrom of Detroit.

Among the other survivors are his sister, Miss Eva Dial, with whom he made his home at 410 North Iowa Ave.
