A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Renwick. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Renwick.

Ernest Henry Eilers was born on November 22, 1926 in Aplington, the son of Henry and Anna (Harms) Eilers. Ernest grew up in Aplington and attended Aplington High School but a year before he was to graduate he was drafted into the Army. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned to Aplington High School and graduated.

On June 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Virginia Poulsen in Melcher. Together they made their home in Renwick and raised two children. Ernest worked as a carpenter at Gunder's in Dakota City for 20 years until retiring.

Ernest enjoyed woodworking, going for walks, and visiting with others. He also was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Ernest especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Ernest died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Iowa Specialty Hospital, Clarion. He was 92.

He is survived by his children, Calvin (Lynne) Eilers of Urbandale, Lorraine Wood of Waukee; grandchildren, Ashley (David) Davis of Dallas TX, Erica (Paul) Nesbit of West Des Moines, Alex Wood of Dallas, TX, Jacob Wood of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Sophia Davis, Johnny Davis, Elliott Nesbit; brother, LaVerne (Kay) Eilers of Aplington; and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; and his wife, Virginia on August 15, 1975.
