Edward Clarence Heslop, son of Walter and Mary Bernsen Heslop, was born May 21, 1911, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended school at Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1930. While in high school, he was the state champion wrestler. He was employed by Wilson Company and worked as custodian for the school system and the United Methodist Church until retiring at the age of 65.

Ed was united in marriage with Helen Sibrel on July 6, 1957, at Carthage, Mo. He enjoyed trapping and hunting as a pastime. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one daughter. Survivors include his wife, Helen; one son, Edward Eugene of Harvey, Iowa; three daughters: Sandra (Mrs. Frank) Nine of Sedalia, Mo.; Judi Jennings and Lisa (Mrs. Casimiro) Barron of Eagle Grove; two step-daughters: Carolyn (Mrs. Melvin) Elwood of Eagle Grove and Marilyn (Mrs. Dennis) Rapp of Goldfield; one brother, Harry Heslop of Ames; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1978, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Don Callen officiated and burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Pedestrian Killed in Dows Saturday
Edward Heslop, a 66 year old resident of the Dows Care Center, died enroute to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Saturday, Nov. 4, 1978 after being struck by a car in Dows. Margaret E. Schwab, Dows, told authorities she was southbound on S-13 when she saw what she believed to be a coat lying in the street. She said she applied brakes, but did not come to a stop, and the car struck Mr. Heslop, who was crawling in the street. Mr. Heslop had walked away from the Dows Care Center and was believed to have been confused. Iowa Highway Patrolman Ray Knight investigated the accident.
