November 25, 1883 --- April 9, 1970

Herman Burres, 86, a former Eagle Grove resident, died April 9, at his home in Vancouver, Wash. He had not been ill and died in his sleep. Funeral services were held April 14 in the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church with Pastor W. E. Carlson officiating.

Burial was in the Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Burres is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Huge [Kluge], three sons, Helmer of Bovey, Minn.; Norman of Moorehead, Minn.; and Everett of Eagle Grove; three daughters, Mrs. Earl Hanson [Hansen], Webster City; Mrs. Richard Johnson, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. John Ruiter of Grand Rapids, Minn. He is also survived by one sister, Hilda Burres [Buraas], of Eagle Grove.

Mr. Burres was born on a farm in Humboldt County and his parents were Mr. and Mrs. Nels Buraas. He farmed at Frost and Deer Creek, Minn, until 1940 when he moved to Vancouver, Wash., and was employed by the government in defense plants. He retired some years ago.

Obituary

Herman Burres was born November 25, 1883 in Humboldt County, near Eagle Grove, to Nels and Bertha Anderson Hansen Buraas. He was baptized into the triune faith on December 1, 1883 by Rev. Holm. He renewed his baptismal covenant through the rite of confirmation in 1897 at Norway Lake Lutheran Church in Humboldt County. He died at Vancouver, Wash, on April 9, 1970 after reaching the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 14 days.

Herman grew to manhood on the family farm home west of Eagle Grove and on June 9, 1909 was married to Evelyn Kluge at Eagle Grove. They farmed at Frost and Deer Creek, Minn, until 1940, when they moved to Vancouver, Wash, and he was employed by the government in defense plants.

Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers, Hans in infancy, Carl in 1938, and Ben and Ole in 1967.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife Evelyn; three sons: Helmer of Bovey, Minn.; Norman of Moorehead, Minn.; Everett of Eagle Grove; three daughters: Bessie (Mrs. Earl Hansen) of Webster City; Mildred (Mrs. Richard Johnson) of Eagle Grove; Edna (Mrs. John Ruiter) of Grand Rapids, Minn.; one sister, Hilda Burres [Buraas] of Eagle Grove; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 14, 1970 at 2:00 p.m. in the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. W. E. Carlson. Interment at Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
