Roger Meyer, 79, of Iowa Falls, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Israel Family Hospice in Ames. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 PM on Friday, May 17 at the Woodley Funeral Home. Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iowa Falls is caring for the family.

Roger William Meyer was born on November 12, 1939 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to William and Dorothy (Collins) Meyer. He attended country school in Grant Twp. in Geneva, Iowa through the 7th grade and 8th grade at Central School in Iowa Falls. He graduated Iowa Falls High School in 1958. On January 16, 1962 Roger was united in marriage to Mardelle Fitz at the Methodist Church in Rowan, Iowa. He served with the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1962-1967, with training in Parris Island, SC and Camp Lejeune, NC. Roger worked in construction for forty-eight years, being employed at Stockdale’s in Iowa Falls and Henning Construction Company in Latimer and Johnston, Iowa. He was also self-employed for twelve years. Roger was a member of the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls for sixty-five years and was serving as a Trustee and on the Outreach Committee.

Roger enjoyed gardening, working in the yard with plants, conifers and roses being his favorite. After retiring in 2011, he spent a lot of time turning bowls on wood lathe and other wood projects on CNC router. He was a member of two segmented woodworkers clubs. He also looked forward to those early morning get-togethers for coffee with the guys.

Roger Meyer is survived by his wife, Mardelle Meyer of Iowa Falls, Iowa; sons, Michael (Cheryl) Meyer of San Marcos, California and Mark Meyer of Iowa Falls, Iowa; grandchildren: Nathan Meyer, Nicholas Meyer, Amanda Meyer, Adeline Meyer and Benjamin Meyer; a sister, Betty (Jerry) Gardalen and a brother, James (Judy) Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Meyer.
