May 29, 1930 ---- April 15, 2019

Joann (Lindvall) White, 88, of Clarion, Iowa passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Joann White will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East in Clarion with Reverend Mike Gudka officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Joann Karlene was born on May 29, 1930 in Clarion, Iowa to Nels and Violet (Lukens) Lindvall. Joann loved the outdoors and animals, so how appropriate to marry a farmer, James H. White, on September 24, 1950. They were married at the United Methodist Church in Clarion where she has been a lifelong member. Joann and Jim farmed near Clarion for many years.

Joann attended country school and graduated from Clarion High School in 1948. She went on to the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls (UNI) and earned her teaching degree. She taught country school in Grant and Wall Lake Townships. She loved being a teacher and had many stories about her students and the good old days.

Joann loved Clarion. She was a sales clerk and then manager of Crowe’s Clothing Store for over 25 years. Joann also taught the Utili Dulci Sunday School class for many years. Joann loved starting her days with breakfast with friends at the New Home Café. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, playing piano, solving Sudoku puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.

Joann and Jim were together for 63 years. They traveled many places in the United States and made several trips to Sweden to see her cousins. She will lovingly be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandma, and great-grandma.

Joann is survived by her daughters Janet (Jerry) Blackman of Clarion and Kathleen Licklider of Lees Summitt, Missouri; grandchildren Ryan (Penni) Blackman of Ankeny, Rod Blackman of Des Moines, Cale (Amber) Licklider and Katie Licklider all of Lees Summit, Missouri; great-grandchildren Stella and Nolan Blackman of Ankeny; brother Richard Lindvall; as well as nieces, nephews, many cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, and her sister Edna Groom.
