William Henry Moore born at Martinsburg, Penn. April 24, 1833 departed this life at 3 a. m. on Easter Sunday, lacking one day of completing his eighty-third year. Next Thursday the 27th is the 51st anniversary of his marriage to Mary A. Brown of Jeffersonville, Indiana who is still living. She is an invalid and unable to be with him during his last moments. Six children survive him, James B. Moore, Mrs. Geo. Parr, Mrs. Sparling, Mrs. Robert Chapman, Mrs. W. Elliott, Mrs. Palmer.
During practically all of his life he has been active in church work and has had charge of the choirs and conducted singing schools to improve the congregational singing. While a great lover of music and playing of different instruments his preference secretary was for church and organ music. He took great interest in the early temperance movements such as Good Templars and kindred organizations generally furnishing the music for the different public meetings. As a citizen he always took an active part in the public affairs of his community, believing it to be his duty.
He served as a private in Henry B. Huff's Co. C 46th regiment, state of Pennsylvania in the civil war.
The funeral was held at the M. E. church, Tuesday afternoon with Rev. L. M. Pierce conducting the services. The interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
