Heath Allen Chelesvig, the son of Charles “Chuck” and Evelyn (Capsel) Chelesvig, was born on February 5, 1971 (during a blizzard) in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 1989”, where he was active in football, wrestling, track, baseball, 4-H and FFA. Heath then attended Luther College for one year before transferring to U.N.I., where he received his Bachelor Of Arts Degree. He received his Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University and was working on his Doctorate Degree at Western Michigan University.
In 1994, Heath married Trefny Bildner at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and they had three children: Hans, Kjerstin and Kari. They made their home in Iowa City, Stillwater, OK and Caledonia, MI.
Heath worked as a Conference Coordinator for IGSHPA, mentored students through a grant program at Davenport University and was an Institutional Researcher at Grand Rapids Community College.
Heath was a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church. He loved his children very much. He also enjoyed college wrestling, reading and education – he had a great appreciation for learning!
Heath passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the age of 48 years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Chuck. Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Chelesvig of Eagle Grove; children: Hans Chelesvig, who is attending college at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor and Kjerstin and Kari Chelesvig of Saugatuck, MI; sister, Heidi Hudson and her husband Bob and their son Jake of Bakersfield, CA; brother, Tim Chelesvig and wife Jill and their daughter Landry of Cedar Falls and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
