Marion Oberhauser

BELMOND - Marion Oberhauser, 90, of Belmond, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at Laguna Hills, Calif., from medical complications.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with Father John Paisley officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, with a parish rosary at 2:30 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to service time at the church.

Memorials may be given to Oxfam American, the Nature Conservatory, the Monastery of the Poor Clares, or a charity of choice in Marion's name.

Marion F. Oberhauser was born on March 23, 1908, the fifth of eight children of Walter and Jennie Pritchard. She attended college and taught country school for several years before her marriage to Louis Oberhauser on June 12, 1930.

She was active in many organizations at both the local and state levels, including Federated Women's Club, Catholic Daughters of America, Progress Club and Writers Club.

In 1970, Marion and her husband, Lou, served two years in the Peace Corps in Brazil, and upon their return from Brazil, served as Vista Volunteers in Visalia, Calif, for four years.

Marion wrote poetry and had several poems published along with numerous articles. She also wrote and published two books on her family history.

Marion will be remembered for her commitment to social justice, her reverence for all people, her ready wit, and her gift of faith which turned every challenge into a celebratory event. She was 90 years young and was an actively engaged woman who truly edited her own life.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Oberhauser, of St. Paul, Minn.; three sons, Jon Oberhauser, of Hamilton, Ohio; Paul Oberhauser, of Somerset, Ohio; and Louis Oberhauser, of Wayzata, Minn.; stepdaughter, Gretchen Bell, of Los Gatos, Calif; stepson, Peter Oberhauser, of Caroline, Wis.; a sister, Elizabeth Grobaty, of Laguna Hills, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 49 years, Louis Bernard Oberhauser; husband of 10 years, S. T. Oberhauser; daughter, Jeannie F. Johnston; and son, Sherman D. Oberhauser.
