Raymond F. Welsh, 84, died Tuesday in Chicago, Ill. following a terminal illness. Funeral services were held there Thursday and graveside rites here in Rose Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday. Mr. Welsh is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Bilney of Eagle Grove, one brother, Marcellus Welsh of Huron, S.D. and a sister, Mrs. Claude Keyes who lives in California. Mr. Welsh was a long time resident of Eagle Grove and a graduate of old Sacred Heart School. He was employed in the accounting department of the Chicago and North Western R.R. here and many years ago was transferred to Chicago and retired some years ago. He was an uncle of George Wright of Eagle Grove.

Mr. Welsh entered railway service on March 1, 1912, as a call boy on the Chicago & North Western, later serving successively as yard clerk and timekeeper until 1916 when he was promoted to assistant construction accountant of the Ashland division. Later he served as chief timekeeper and labor accountant with headquarters at Chicago, and in 1939 he was advanced to division accountant of the Southern Illinois division, with headquarters at South Pekin, Illinois, being transferred to the Eastern division, with headquarters at Norfolk, Nebraska, in 1920. In the same year he was appointed examiner of the Association of Western Railways, with headquarters at Chicago, and in 1936 he was promoted to chief examiner. On April 1, 1939, he was advanced to secretary of the Association of Western Railways, then executive secretary in 1944.
