Cora, second daughter of Ole and Gena Sandwick Uhr was born on a farm near Holmes, Iowa on August 2nd, 1890 and departed this life at 8:07 p. m. December 5, 1953 at the Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Dodge, Iowa. At the time of her passing away she was sixty three years, four months and three days of age. Mrs. Smith was ill but about two days having been stricken with a severe stroke Thursday evening.

At the age of eight years she moved with her family to Eagle Grove and here she attended school and as a young woman worked in the local telephone office.

In her early youth she was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has remained a member of this church since.

On September 19, 1909 she was united in marriage to Charles P. Smith of Eagle Grove, Iowa, the ceremony taking place at Minneapolis, Minnesota. To this union nine children were born, seven of whom survive. Her husband, Charles P. Smith passed away October 29th last year, one son in infancy in 1921 and daughter Marceline (age 17) in 1945. The seven children surviving are Mildred, now Mrs. R. I. Bell of Des Moines; Virgil M. of Goldfield; Roger H. of Des Moines; Charlotte, now Mrs. Frank Brown of Dover, N. J.; Merle C. of Boone; Gloria C. of Des Moines and Darwin L. of Eagle Grove, and thirteen grandchildren.

She is also survived by one brother Orvin Uhr of Eagle Grove and three sisters, Mrs. Josie Johnston of Chicago, Mrs. Lillian Codner and Mrs. Ruby Jones of Eagle Grove, besides a number of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 p. m. with Rev. K. R. Torvik officiating. Interment was made on the family lot in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Attend Funeral

Out of town relatives attending the funeral of Mrs. Chas. Smith Wednesday afternoon were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown and children of Dover, N J.: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bell and children. Miss Gloria Smith, Mrs. Ethel Bell. Mrs. Howard Bell, Mrs. Richard Dawson, Mrs. Netti Clements, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Jerald Jones, Manson; Mr. and Mrs. Merle C. Smith, Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Smith and children, Goldfield; Mrs. Josie Johnston, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lenning, Humboldt; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fisher, Clarion.
