Mrs. John Christians

Christina Christians nee Ennenga, was born in Otsfriesland, German, January 9th, 1882. During the days of her childhood she attended the public and religious schools. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Reformed Church. At the age of 27 she came to America with her parents. On September 8, 1909, she was joined in holy wedlock to John P. Christians. During the first three years the family lived on a farm near Hartsburg, Illinois, and then moved to a farm about 5 miles northeast of Klemme, Iowa. Three sons and five daughters were born to the Christians family, all surviving the mother. They are: Karsjens, Anna (Mrs. Lloyd Smith), Emma (Mrs. Wm. Neuberger), Henrietta (Mrs. Art Tebbets), Sina (Mrs. Laverne Christensen,) Harold, who at the present is serving in the army, Elsie and Duane. The older children of Mr. John Christians, by his first marriage, to whom she proved herself to be a good and faithful mother are: Pete, Edward, Mrs. Herman Merkel, and John Harm Christians preceded his mother in death. The other surviving relative are a sister, Mrs. Peter Miller of Bigelow, Minn., and a brother, Tjark Ennenga of Steamboat Rock, Iowa and twenty one grandchildren.

Mrs. Christians was modest, quiet person, a sincere believer, devoted to her husband and children. She was much concerned about the spiritual welfare of her children; she could say with the Apostle John: "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."

Mr. and Mrs. Christians had planned to retire from active farm life and move to Klemme this spring, where they had bought a home. However, last summer Mrs. Christians became ill and her condition gradually became more serious. She was taken to hospitals at Mason City and Hampton. During the last months of her illness she was cared for by her husband and children at home. She departed this earthly life Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, February 5, 1943 at the age of 61 years and 26 days.

"She looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God," and death to her meant "an entering into that rest, that remains for the people of God."
