Illiff John Bernsmeier, son of Russell and Ramey Peterson Bernsmeier, was born May 24, 1919, on a farm in Lyon Township, Iowa. He graduated from Kamrar High School, Kamrar, Iowa, in 1937. On April 4, 1941, he married Clarice Hazel Clair at Ames, Iowa. The couple resided at Jewell, Iowa, farmed near Randall, Iowa, then moved to Webster City, Iowa. In 1985, they moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa. His main vocation was as a carpenter. His wife died September 22, 1999. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Illiff J. Bernsmeier died Tuesday, December 21, 1999, at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City, at the age of 80. He is survived by two sons, Vance Bernsmeier, and wife, Anita, and Mark Bernsmeier, and wife, Lynda, all of Eagle Grove; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Calvin Bernsmeier, Alleman, Iowa; one sister, Hazel Clair, Eagle Grove; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services were held Wednesday (today), December 29, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City, with Leigh Banwell officiating. Interment was held at the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City. Foster Funeral Home in Webster City was in charge of arrangements.
