Funeral of C. E. Gross.

Our community was shocked last Friday evening to hear of the death of Mrs. C. E. Gross, who, after several weeks struggle with typhoid fever died on Friday evening, October 28th, at the hospital.

The deceased, Verna Pickering Gross, was one well known to the citizens of Eagle Grove, being born near our city, on May 23, 1875. She grew up in our community, educated in our high school and active in social and church work until March 1, 1905 when she was united in marriage to Charles Ellsworth Gross. Four children blessed their union, but the youngest remaining with them but a few days going on to the “Great Beyond” on September 11th last. This leaves three children, William 5 years of age, Edward 3 years, and Mary 2 years of age, with the husband to mourn the loss of the affectionate wife and mother.

Deceased was converted and united with the Methodist church of Eagle Grove, under the pastorate of Rev. J. W. Southwell, on January 12, 1896 and was faithful and active in all lines of church work, as member of the choir, of Epworth League, Sunday School and whenever there was something to do, in her cheerful and happy way as an imitator of Him “who went about doing good. Truly she illustrated the Scripture, “Blessed are they that die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”

The services were held at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. W. Bollinger assisted by Rev. C. B. Winter. A large congregation of friends and neighbors assembled in token of respect to the deceased and sympathy with the husband and motherless children; and accompanied the remains to the Ross Hill cemetery for the interment.

There was a profusion of floral tributes, and the entire community feels a special sadness in the death of this young mother—C. B. W.
