DEATH OF MRS. PICKERING

From Monday Evening’s Times.

Mrs. A. K. Pickering, living just southwest of the corporation, passed to her final reward Sunday, August 7, at 6:30 o’clock in the morning. Mrs. Pickering has been a sufferer for a good many months, but bore all the pain of her disease, cancer of the breast, with a patience and fortitude that is seen in few lives. For all the time of her sickness she has received the kindest of care and most gentle attention and while the love and solicitude of friends could relieve all in their power the pain yet they could not stop the progress of the disease.

Mrs. Pickering was born in New England sixty years ago last June. During the years of her childhood she came to Ohio and was later married to A. K. Pickering. To them are now left three children, Byron, renter of the Paine farm northwest of town, and Howard and Miss Verna at home. When about thirty years of age Mrs. Pickering with her husband and family came to Iowa and settled in Jones county. Three years later she came to this county and for over a quarter of a century occupied the farm on which she died.

She was one of the pioneers of this western country and endured the hardships and smoothed over the rough places as only those hardy settlers could. She was a true and helpful wife and a good mother and to her family in their sad affliction is given the deep sympathy of many friends.

The funeral occurred at the home Tuesday at 10 o’clock in the morning, Rev. Southwell officiating. Interment at Rosehill.
