December 22, 1955 ---- May 7, 1999

Eugene Ronald Gerdes, 43, Webster City, died Friday, May 7, 1999 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Dugger Ewing Funeral home in Belmond and one hour prior to the services at the church in Webster City. Burial will be at Belmond Cemetery at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Military graveside services will be provided by the Iowa Air National Guard 133rd Air Control Squadron of Fort Dodge.

Eugene Ronald Gerdes, son of Henry and Dorothy Lacey Gerdes, was born Dec. 22, 1955 in Belmond. He graduated from Belmond Community Schools. After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served two years. In 1976, he entered the Iowa Air National Guard and returned to Belmond. While living in Belmond, he worked for Winnebago, We-3 Catering and National By-Products. He married Janine Lein on June 28, 1986 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home in Badger and Fort Dodge. Still serving in the Iowa Air National Guard, he went to work full time with the 133rd Air Control Squadron in Fort Dodge. The couple later moved to Webster City.

His service in the Iowa Air National Guard included membership in the Enlisted Association of National Guard of the United States, Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Iowa, Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. He belonged to the Rock Island Technical Society. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Webster City.

Survivors are his wife, Janine; four daughters, Jessica, Katelyn, Rebecca and Carrie, all at home; his parents, Henry and Dorothy Gerdes of Belmond, sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Roger Ammerman of Clarion, Debra and Robert Halfpop of Belmond, brother Randi Gerdes and fiancee Lynn of Houston, TX., five nieces, one nephew, mother and father-in-law Wayne and Jean Lein of Belmond, sister-in-law, Paula Lein of West Des Moines, and grandfather-in-law, Adolphe Tendall of Ames. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his wife's maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents.
