H. Menke, 83, Dies Saturday Funeral Arranged by Wilcox Chapel

Clear Lake—Harm C. Menke, Sr., 83, died at a Mason City hospital Saturday evening at 9:30 p m. Funeral services have been set tentatively for Wednesday afternoon. A prayer service will be at the Wilcox funeral chapel at 12:30 and funeral services at the Reformed church in Belmond at 2:30. Burial will be in the Belmond cemetery.

Besides his wife, Anna, Mr. Menke is survived by 6 sons and 3 daughters. They are Lambert and Titus Menke, Mason City; John Menke, Geneva, Iowa; George Menke and Mrs. Grace Kingery, Fresno, Cal.; Harm Menke, Jr., and Mrs. Ubbe Winters, Clear Lake; Alfred Menke, Chicago, and Mrs. Anthony Mills, Los Angeles, Cal.

Mr. Menke was born in Germany, Feb. 26, 1866. The family lives on a farm northeast of Clear Lake.

Menke Rites to Be Wednesday

Prayer Service at Wilcox Chapel, 12:30

Clear Lake — Funeral services for Harm C. Menke, Sr., 83, who died at a Mason City hospital Saturday evening have been arranged for Wednesday afternoon. A prayer service conducted by the Rev. Carl A. Sentman, pastor of Radio Chapel, Mason City, will be held at 12:30 at the Wilcox funeral chapel in Clear Lake and the funeral services at the Reformed church in Belmond at 2:30 with the Rev. Mr. Poppen, pastor, conducting the service. Burial will be in the family lot in Belmond cemetery.

Mr. Menke was born in Germany Feb. 26, 1866, and came to the United States in 1894. He was married to Miss Elzina Wientys Jan. 13, 1895, and to them were born 3 sons, John, who now lives at Geneva, Lambert, who lives in Mason City, and Justin, who died at the age of 6 months. Mrs. Menke died in 1898.

Jan. 7, 1906, Mr. Menke was married to Miss Ann Groen, who survives. The family has lived near Clear Like since 1942.

Other children surviving are George Menke and Mrs. Grace Kingery, Fresno, Cal.; Harm Menke, Jr., and Mrs. Ubbe Winters, Clear Lake; Titus Menke, Mason City; Alfred Menke, Chicago, and Mrs. Anthony Mills, Los Angeles, Cal.

Menke Rites Held at Belmond Church

Clear Lake—-Funeral services or Harm C. Menke, Sr., 83, who died Saturday evening, were held. Wednesday afternoon with the Wilcox funeral chapel in charge.

The Rev. Carl A. Sentman, Radio Chapel pastor, Mason City, conducted a prayer and Scripture reading service at the Wilcox chapel after which the body was taken to Belmond for a service conducted by the Rev. Mr. Poppen, pastor, at the Reformed church. Burial was in the churchyard there.

Pallbearers were 5 sons, Lambert, John, Harm, Jr., Titus and Alfred Harms, and Virgil Winters a grandson. At the church a quartet sang “Going Down the Valley,” “Nearer, My God to Thee” and “Good Night and Good Morning.”

February 26, 1866 – June 11, 1949
