January 10, 1851 ---- November 20, 1928

David Lester Lyons was born near Detroit, Mich., on January 10, 1851, and died at his home in Clarion, Iowa, November 20, 1928, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 10 days. When he was four years old the family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in Mahaska county, and later he himself farmed in that section until October 15, 1892, when he removed to Clarion and was engaged in the grain business. In 1894 he took up farming, and later came again to town, where he operated a dray line. For the last few years he has been in poor health and unable to do any active work. On March 4, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Hazlett who preceded him in death. He was married to Mrs. Nellie Alder Huntington on June 27, 1894 Huntington on June 27, 1894. He is survived by his wife and the following children - Elmer Thomas of Charles City, Walter Clark of Clarion, Mrs. Olive Munnis of Rowan, Ernest Allen of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Emily Loretta Ross of Clarion, and Mrs. Gladys May Jergensen of Holmes. All of these were able to be present at the funeral.

Mr. Lyons always took an active interest in public affairs. He was honored by being elected as representative from Mahaska county and served with credit to himself and his constituents in the state legislature during the term of 1885-1888. He was of sturdy pious Scotch-Irish ancestry. He was one of the charter members of the Clarion United Presbyterian church. The funeral was from the United Presbyterian church of Clarion on Thursday last, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. S. Pollock. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery. Those attending the funeral from out of town were Sam Chestnut and daughter and Ed Chestnut, of Clarksville, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rotzler of Saint Hilaire, Minn., Mrs. Kate Clark of Humboldt; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Mosher and Mr. and Mrs. Ohlerking of Eagle Grove.
