December 1, 1939 ---- February 8, 2019

Jerry Allen Pals, 79, of Belmond and formerly of Meservey, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Funeral Services for Jerry Allen Pals will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the First Reformed Church, 620 2nd Street in Meservey with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Jerry Allen Pals, son of Bert and Grace (Koenen) Pals, was born on December 1, 1939 on the family farm near Meservey. He attended country school and later Meservey School. Jerry was a farmer at heart, he began farming in 1958 with his brother and continued to farm until his retirement in 2004.

In 1960, Jerry met Judy Lockman on a blind date. They were the first couple to be married in the new United Church of Rowan on October 7, 1961.

Jerry enjoyed woodworking projects. He made many pieces of furniture for their home but only one grandfather clock and he said “no more!”.

Jerry was a member of First Reformed Church and served on the consistory where he held many offices. Jerry was a loving and faithful father and husband. He was always very polite and always knew a joke or two.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years Judy of Belmond; daughters Joleyne (Bill) Bell of Klemme, Jody (Luther) Lehman of Johnston; and Joann (Dan) Oberhelman of Kanawha; grandchildren Christopher, Dani (Chad), Emily, Mattie, Owen, Jade, and Derek; great-grandchildren Libby, Christian, Emma, and Jaxon; brother Delbert Pals; sister Audrey (Vernon) VanHorn; aunts Ruth Pals and Mavis Koenen; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two infant brothers Eugene in 1944 and Lynn in 1951; sister-in-law Vivian Pals; and nephew Alan Johnson.
