Lois Tobey of Gold Beach, Oregon passed away on Jan. 4, 2019. Lois was born Oct. 26, 1937, to Ole and Martha Larson in Hardy, Iowa. Lois had one sister, Myrna Pederson of Humboldt, Iowa. They were very close for 77-plus years. Lois graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, Iowa. She married Walter Brockway of Ottosen, Iowa on July 21, 1956. She had three children; Stephan Brockway of Brookings, Robert Brockway of Gold Beach, and Cynthia Iverson of Gold Beach. In 1983 she married Louis Tobey and were married until his passing in 1997.

Walter and Lois moved from Iowa to California in 1962, where she was a homemaker and worked part time in a nursing home. In 1974, her family moved to Gold Beach, and a year later her husband Walter, passed away in July of 1975. She oversaw the Senior Nutrition program in the late 70’s, well before there was a Senior Center. After that she began her career in care given of terminally ill patients. Lois had been the caregiver for her mother Martha in 1974, and later was the caregiver for her second husband Louis Tobey in 1997, before his passing. It was after being the caregiver for her mother and husband, that she pursued caregiving full time.

Lois belonged to several service organizations, from hospital auxiliary, garden club, Lion and Lionesses, she was a church deaconess for the First Baptist Church in Gold Beach, Red Hat Society, and Weight Watchers just to name a few.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents and two husbands. She is survived by her sister, Myrna Pederson of Humboldt, Iowa; her three children, Stephan, Robert, and Cynthia; one step child, Vernon Tobey and Sharon of Agency, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Feb. 2, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gold Beach. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Coastal Hospice or Curry General Hospital auxiliary.
