Norma Jean Lundgren, 89, formerly of Fort Dodge, IA passed away on Mon­day, December 31, 2018 at Deerfield Retirement Commun­ity in Urb­an­dale, IA. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, with the service following at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Norma was born on July 30, 1929 to Arthur and Thelma Reimers on a farm near Vincent on the hottest day of the summer which her mom reminded her of every year on her birthday! She attended school in Colfax Township and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1947. On September 26, 1948, she married George Lundgren, Jr. Because she loved children and their well-being, she took a job with the Webster County Dept. of Social Welfare. She was later employed at the local telephone company until retirement.

Norma was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Her biggest joy was her family and she was its hub. Raising four children was the greatest accomplishment of her life and her legacy will continue to live on through each of them. She was a loving, compassionate person and a loyal friend, always putting others first. Her life was seldom about her. She will be remembered for her genuine concern for others, her kind heart, and her keen sense of humor, as she would quip, “Even though your life is full of cactus, you don’t have to sit on it.” In her free time, she enjoyed reading, music, dance, playing Scrabble and socializing with family and friends.

Norma is survived by 4 children: Greg (Pam) Lundgren of Davenport, IA; Lori (Bob) Erickson of Clive, IA; Scott (Solveig) of Fort Dodge, IA; and Mitch Lundgren of Clive, IA and friend, Janet Wiederien; 1 brother: Jack (Sheryl) Reimers of Renwick, IA; 2 grandchildren: Megan (Joe) Micaletti of Simi Valley, CA and Adam (Kelly) Lundgren of Plymouth, MN; and 6 great grandchildren: Ben, Chloe, Austin Lundgren, Joey, Marcus, Leo Micaletti. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; parents; brother, Arthur Reimers, Jr.; sisters, Betty Pieper and Joyce Dencker; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Lundgren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Fort Dodge Public Library.
