Joshua "Joe" Thomas
He came to America with his parents, Evan and Madelin Thomas at the age of 11 months. Joe was married to Julia Buffington on June 16, 1895, at Wapello and made their home at Columbus Junction until 1905, when they moved to Williams, and in 1920 to Rowan, which has been their home since. He leaves to mourn his wife Julia, and three sons and two daughters. One son, John, preceded him to death. Those of his children still living are: Jim of Eldora; Jake of Iowa Falls; Mac of Rowan; Mrs. Lila Thayer of Belmond; Mrs. Bonnie Estland of Belmond; also sixteen grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Thomas is an uncle of Mr. O. C. Buffington of the Spring Run neighborhood.

Funeral Services Held Friday for Joe Thomas
This community was shocked Wednesday evening upon learning of the death of Joe Thomas. Mr. Thomas had gone out with his lantern to do the milking, and when he failed to return Mrs. Thomas became uneasy and called Floyd Allen, a neighbor, to investigate. Shortly afterwards the body of the deceased was found hanging in the garage. Funeral services were held from the Dows funeral home Friday afternoon with Rev. Harvey of the M. B. church officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. A. O. Pelley and Ed Rietz. Burial was made at Williams.

Joshua (Joe) Thomas was born in Wales, England, April 21, 1869, and died at Rowan on November 27, 1935 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 6 days. He came to America with his parents, Evan and Madeline Thomas, at the age of 11 months. He was married to Julia Buffington on June 16, 1895 at Wapello, Iowa. They made their home near Columbus Junction until 1905, when they moved to Williams. In 1920 they moved to Rowan, where they have made their home since. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Julia, three sons and two daughters. One son John preceded him in death. His living children are, James C. of Eldora, Jake of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Lila Thayer of Belmond, Mrs. Bonnie Ersland of Belmond, and J. Mac of Rowan, and sixteen grandchildren besides a host of friends. The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing family. Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ersland and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thayer of Belmond and Jake Thomas and son Harold.
