John Chris Christensen, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away on January 24, 2019 at the age of 60.

John was born on December 6, 1958 to Verne and Nola (Brandrup) Christensen in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children (Candace, Frances, and John). John attended Eagle Grove High School, Iowa Central Community College, University of Northern Iowa, and University of Iowa ultimately becoming a CPA as well as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

John married Barbara Bourne on June 20, 1987 in West Des Moines, IA. They had two children, Kelci and Tyler. They lived in West Des Moines, IA, Madison, WI, Waverly, IA, Johnston, IA, and Middleton, WI where John worked at several life insurance companies in the actuarial department.

John enjoyed many activities such as running, biking, scuba diving, traveling, boating, water skiing, bowling, and watching all sports. He also achieved a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was a big supporter of youth wrestling, basset hound rescue, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings. His biggest loves were his family as well as his love for Jesus. John’s strong faith and positive attitude helped him cope with his 3-year cancer battle.

John is survived by his wife, Barb, children Kelci and Tyler (Rachel), grandson Dominic, sisters Candy and Francie, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service to honor John will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00pm at Chatham Community Church, located within Chatham Mills, 480 Hillsboro St., Suite 800, Pittsboro, NC 27312. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be sent to the American Lung Association, Chatham Community Church or Basset Buddies Rescue.
