BettyAnn Quist passed away on January 18, 2019 at Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo, California at the age of 93. BettyAnn was born to Arthur O. and Beatrice E. Swasand on July 10, 1925 in Vincent, Iowa. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a double major in Economics and Speech in 1946. After graduation, she worked in Hilo, Hawaii and hosted her own daily radio program that focused on home economics. It was at St. Olaf College where she met her future husband, Warren E. Quist. Warren enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 and became a B-24 pilot with the 449th Bomb Group based in Italy. They were married on June 18, 1949 in Vincent, Iowa. During their 69 and a half years of marriage, the couple was fortunate to raise a happy family of four boys and travel to every corner of the world, including trips to the Holy Land, Italy, Scandinavia, South America and the Far East. After Warren graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1951, the couple moved to California where Warren served in the Army Dental Corp. at Camp Roberts during the Korean War. BettyAnn also worked at Camp Roberts in the Accounting Department until their first son David was born. In 1953, the couple moved to San Luis Obispo where Warren established his own dental practice and BettyAnn handled the bookkeeping, banking, and payroll for 40 years. They built a custom home in 1960 and settled down with the mutual goals of developing their community and growing their family. BettyAnn and Warren founded Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in 1955. At Mt. Carmel, BettyAnn was a church leader, a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and joined the Stephen Ministry which brings communion to the homebound. BettyAnn's generosity and positivity was invested in multiple community organizations. She was an active member of the local P.E.O. chapter since 1955. She participated in the A.A.U.W., the Monday Club, and served many years on the Civic and Fine Arts Board. She was a member of the 1980-81 County Grand Jury. She volunteered at Sierra Vista Hospital for 16 years, and also at the County Health Department. She read and recorded text books for visually disabled. students at both Cuesta College and Cal Poly University. She also enjoyed attending aqua kinetics classes for 25 years.

Her greatest joy in life was her close and loving family. She is survived by her husband Warren, their sons David, Stephen, and his wife Cynthia, Peter, and his wife Cindy. Their son Tom preceded BettyAnn in death in the year 2000. BettyAnn loved spending time with her only granddaughter Ann Elizabeth (25).

Her funeral service will be held at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00am, followed by a luncheon. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the The Women's Shelter of San Luis Obispo (Stand Strong) P.O. Box 125, San Luis Obispo, CA 93406.
