8 April 1849 ---- 1 April 1936

Sarah Simpson, daughter of Charles and Matilda Simpson, was born at Mt. Carmel, Indiana, April 8,1849, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Sweet, at Peoria, Ill., April 1, 1936, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 23 days. She was the youngest of two children. Her mother died when she was but six months old and she was cared for by kind friends. At the age of seven she came to Iowa with her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, by the covered wagon route, and settled with them at Cascade, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. After the death of her foster parents she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. George Benedict where she had a happy home.

She was united in marriage with William Cline at Sand Springs on March 2, 1882. They made their first home near Monticello, where their four living children were born. They moved to West Bend, where they lived four years. Here, another son, Lyle, was born, who died in infancy. In 1896 the family moved to Eagle Grove, where she has lived for forty years, during which time she has endeared herself to many friends. Her husband died in 1911 and since then she has made her home in her little cottage on South Park avenue; where her friends have always found a cheery welcome and a happy smile. She was a quiet unassuming woman, but one whose friendships were deep and lasting. Her chief joy was in doing for others. She will be greatly missed by those who have come to know and love her.

She joined the Methodist Episcopal church when a girl of 17 and has been a faithful and loyal member for 70 years. She was one of the real pioneers of the state and of the Methodist church in the state. She became a member of the local Methodist church in 1907 and attended services as long as she was able. The local church was her pride and joy. She was a member of Eagle Chapter No. 114 O. E. S., where she was greatly loved and ever accorded a place of honor and respect.

She leaves her family lonely at her going, but thankful for the splendid life of service she has rendered and for her example of triumphant faith. She is survived by one son and three daughters: M. L. Cline of Walnut Grove, Minn., Mrs. J. H. Sweet (Cora) of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. A. R. Eaton (Frances) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. H. N. Bean (Dorothy) of Boone, Iowa. There are also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who survive her, all of whom were present for the funeral except one. She also leaves two step-children, Mrs. Emma Fisher of West Bend, Iowa, and W. B. Cline of Redlands, Calif.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Kubitschek Kastler funeral home in charge of the Rev. W. L. Breaw. Rev. J. O. Eaton preached the sermon. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Claude Miller and daughter Marilin and Mrs. Emma Fisher of West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Vaughn of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Eaton of Britt; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bean and son Harold Jr. of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Eaton and daughter Mildred and son Forrest of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Buchan of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Sweet of Peoria, Ill.; M. L. Cline and daughter Lucille and Mrs. Edwin Nordstrom of Walnut Grove, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Miller of Livermore.
