July 20, 1851 ---- November 18, 1935

Albertina Lemke

Albertina Schlawin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schlawin was born in Pommern, Germany, July 20, 1851, and passed away at Goodell, Iowa, November 18, 1935, at the age of 84 years, 3 months. On November 5, 1874 she was united in marriage to Henry Lemke. In 1883, Mr. Lemke came to America to find a home for his family and left word with his good wife that he would send for them when he could. But Mrs. Lemke became impatient and put her trust in God and with her three children came to him.

They started farming in Liberty township and lived there for 6 years, then purchased a farm in Hayfield where they resided a number of years and later moved to Garner. Eleven children came to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lemke, three dying in infancy and Henry passing away in 1927.

Mr. and Mrs. Lemke were members of the German Lutheran church in Pommern and when coming to America transferred their membership to the Methodist church in Garner. Mr. Lemke passed away in 1923 and since then Mrs. Lemke has been making her home with her daughters, the past five years living here with her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Beier

Mrs. Lemke was a woman of wonderful character, a faithful and loving, wife, friend and neighbor. She was indeed a Christian and loved her God and His teaching. She numbered her friends by her acquaintances and as soon as a small child had understanding, he loved Grandma Lemke.

For the past few years she suffered much pain and said she never could remember when she did not have a headache, but nevertheless had a sunny disposition, never complaining and was patient to the end. The last three months she had been bedfast. She passed away as she lived, peacefully and quietly at 7:17 a.m. Monday.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her seven children: Mrs. W. F. Bier (Martha), Goodell; Rhine, Otto, Will and John of Klemme; Mrs. Eric Clark (Anna), Garner, and Mrs. James Lilly (Lydia) of Cedar Rapids; twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and a host of friends and loved ones.
