Helen Joanne (Van Sickle) Olson, the daughter of Russell H. and H. Pauline (Creek) Van Sickle, was born on December 13, 1936, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she was raised and educated. On September 3, 1955, Joanne was united in marriage with Kenneth Olson at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Joanne worked as a secretary at the Rotary Ann Homes for 33 years.
Joanne passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Southfield Wellness in Webster City, at the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 2004 and son, Kurt in 2011. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Root (Clark) of Sun City West, AZ; daughter-in-law, Susan Olson of Idaho; grandson, Eric Olson (Christine) and their daughter, Charlotte of Virginia; granddaughter, Alexis Bakker (Chase) and their sons, Cade and Nash of Minnesota; brothers, Robert Van Sickle of Arizona, Michael Van Sickle of Underwood and Tim Van Sickle of Arizona; brother-in-law, Toby Crandall of Gulf Shores, AL and sisters-in-law, Elaine Olson of Gladbrook and Mildred Lofgren of Salt Lake City, UT.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
