Chris Dieger, 71, Goodell Resident Many Years, Dies

Funeral Services Held At United Brethren Church Tuesday Afternoon

Goodell - This community was saddened when news reached here that Chris Dieger, 71, had died Saturday evening at Mercy hospital, Mason City, following a long illness.

Chris Dieger, son of Carolyn Schultz Dieger and Joseph Dieger, was born Feb. 7, 1875, at Chicago, Ill. He was confirmed and reared in the Lutheran church at Wheaton, Ill. Mr. Dieger was united in marriage to Stella Lupton, Feb. 16, 1901, and they moved from Wheaton, Ill., to Goodell in 1903. They were engaged in farming west of town for several years, later moving to a farm three miles east of town which they purchased. It was while living on this place that Mrs. Dieger took ill and died Oct. 30, 1923.

He was united in marriage to Blanche (Africa) Reed Feb. 7, 1926, and they continued to live on this farm for a few years, later moving to town when he sold the farm and purchased a smaller tract of land bordering the city limits. This he continued to work until his health failed him in the early spring. Mr. Dieger submitted to an operation June 25 and since then had been growing weaker.

He leaves his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Boller and Barbara, Goodell; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Halleman, Wheaton, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Brehm, Oak Park, Ill.; Mrs. Carrie Johnson, Olympia, Wash.; two brothers, Henry of Cleveland, Ohio, and William, of south of Goodell; his niece, Mrs. Russell Bell, and a nephew, Henry Dieger, who reside in this community.

Short services were held from Walter Boller home Tuesday afternoon, followed by funeral services held at the United Brethren church in Goodell at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Carlton Spencer officiating. Music was furnished by the church quartet. Pallbearers were Edgar Mayhew, Warner Butts, Amos Hanson, L. W. Wesenberg, A. M. Graeber and Walter Mason. Burial was made in the family lot in Amsterdam cemetery.
