Rites at Goodell for Mrs. Peterson

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Charles Peterson, 70, Goodell, at the Edward Peterson home at 1:30 p.m. and at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Goodell, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Donald Varce, pastor of the church officiated, with burial taking place at Amsterdam cemetery east of Goodell. Serving as pallbearers were her nephews, George Nolte of Adams, Minn.; Lawrence Christie, Marble Rock; Homer Blickenderfer, Charles City; Benjamin Nolte, Belmond; Norman Peterson, Corwith and John Burrs, Goodell. Music was furnished by the church quartet, Mrs. Henry Brede, Mrs. Robert McNutt, Amos Hanson, Bill Butts with Mrs. Paul Veldhouse at the piano.

Elizabeth Christie Peterson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Christie, was born on a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Goodell, December 21, 1888, and passed away at the hospital in Britt Sunday morning, Feb 8, 1959. Goodell vicinity has always been her home, attending the local school until she completed the course of study. After finishing school, she taught in the rural schools in this community. She was united in marriage to Charles Peterson, also of Goodell, on Oct. 1, 1913, and they farmed in this area for several years. Upon retiring from active work, they moved to Goodell, which has been their home for several years. To this union was born three sons.

Mrs. Peterson has been in failing health for the past two years, submitting to surgery at the hospital in Iowa City. She became very ill the past winter and was taken to the hospital at Britt a week ago. Mrs. Peterson was an active member of the local American Legion Auxiliary and was ever faithful and interested in the work of this organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one little granddaughter, four sisters and one brother. Surviving are her sons, Edward, Goodell; James, Belmond and Donald of Burchinal. Also five grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. George (Ella) Garberick, Willmar, Minn.; Mrs. Arley (Agnes) Blickenderfer, Charles City; Mrs. Henry (Veda) Nolte, Mrs. Martin (Clara) Burrs, and Ione Christie, Goodell. Also nieces and nephews besides a host of other relatives and friends.
