Karen Heiden Bonjour, 69, of Dows passed away Friday, November 16, 2018 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Karen Heiden Bonjour will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 206 West Ellsworth Street in Dows, with Pastor Laurel Meester officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, 100 North Lee Street in Dows and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Karen Louise, daughter of Irvin and Hazel (Welzein) Heiden, was born in Hampton on December 14, 1948. Growing up the youngest of six, Karen was baptized and confirmed in the Vernon Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm southwest of Dows and attended Dows Community School through graduation. As a child, Karen enjoyed time outdoors and her animals. On May 10, 1969, Karen was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lawrence (Larry) Bonjour in the First Lutheran Church in Dows. The couple made their home in various homes in Dows until they settled on an acreage south of Dows. Karen had a degree in computer science but worked at the Dows Care Center as a certified nurse’s aide for 24 years. She also served on the Dows Ambulance crew, worked at PSI in Belmond and cared for her aging parents.

Activities Karen enjoyed included gardening, crocheting, bird watching, computers, movies and reading. She also enjoyed taking drives, especially in her later years with Larry. Karen had a very strong faith in God.

Karen is survived by her husband Larry Bonjour of Dows, their four daughters: Kristine (Howard) Tyler of Ames, Lisa (Chris) Bonjour Chaplin of Dows, Susan (Jon) Penz of Savage, MN, and Amy (John) Bonjour of Cedar Springs, MI, and eight grandchildren Drew, Wilhelm, Andrew, Elizabeth, Matthew, Abigail, Angel, and Stephanie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joann Lentz, brothers Ronald and Charlie Heiden, her in-laws.
