May 30, 1928 ---- December 24, 2004

William Paul Eliason, 76, of Clarion, died Friday, December 24, 2004, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at the Clarion United Church of Christ Congregational with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating.

William Paul Eliason was born May 30, 1928, on the family farm in rural Kanawha, the son of Olaf and Pearl (Holbrook) Eliason. After being raised on the family farm and attending country schools, he graduated from Kanawha High School in 1946. On April 6, 1958, he married Mary Holmes, of Rowan, and they made their residence in Clarion since that time. They had twin sons, who live in the San Francisco Bay area today. He served in the army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. When he returned home, he began farming near Kanawha, which he continued to do until his retirement in 1998. Thereafter, he continued to farm on a part-time basis with a younger relative through the harvest of 2004. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion, where he held numerous offices including Deacon and trustee. He was also active in the community, serving on the A S C Committee, the Clarion Library, and the Kanawha Elevator Board. Bill loved helping others, seeing his coffee friends, following the Hawkeyes, and playing golf. He also loved farming and the outdoors, but family always came first. He was an avid Democrat, and brought kindness and humor to everything he did.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Clarion; sons Tim, and his wife, Beth, of Orinda, Calif.; and Jeff, and his wife, Mary, of Burlingame, Calif.; four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Nicholas (Tim), Madeline and Ethan (Jeff); a sister Johanna Berkenes and her husband, Art, of Eagle Grove; many friends and relatives. He was preceded in deauth by his parents, a sister, Shirley, and a brother, George. The Ewing-Dugger Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.
