BELMOND, IA - Catherine S. Chapman, 97, of Belmond, IA, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at her home in Belmond. Memorial services will be held later at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, Expressions of sympathy, memorials, or cards may be sent % of son Phillip Chapman, 1646 Green Leaf Court, Florence, Kentucky, 41042. Catherine S. Chapman, 97, died Oct. 2, 2018 at her home in Belmond. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. The family contact is: Phillip Chapman, 1646 Green Leaf Court, Florence, KY, 41042. Andrews Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Catherine S. Chapman, 97, of Belmond, IA, on October 2, 2018 passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and care of her family in the comfort of her home in Belmond as were always her wishes. The Funeral service mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 9, 2018, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Belmond, IA and Father Jerry Blake will be officiating. The Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. There will be a Visitation prior to mass from 9:30-10:30 at the church.

Catherine Sophie Armatis, was the daughter of John Joseph Armatis, and his wife Mary Fedr Armatis of Omaha, she was born March 26, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska. Catherine was one of 7 children to bless her parents union. Both her parents died in her early childhood. Catherine later moved to Clarion, IA, to live with guardians John and Eva Keppers. Catherine married John Oak Chapman, Jr. on September 21, 1940. The couple adopted two children Philip and Debra. During WWII, Catherine was employed at Armour and Company in Omaha. They were owners at Chapman's Truck Stop and Cafe. She relished the simple pleasures of life of providing for her family, enjoyed times with friends, practicing her faith, and took pride in the care of the home she and John built in 1957. Catherine remained in her home where many beautiful memories were shared with family, friends, and loved ones over the years and continued to be independent with minimal assistance until her passing after a brief illness.

Catherine is survived by her son Philip (Barb) Chapman, 1646 Green Leaf Court, Florence, Kentucky 41042 and a daughter Debra Hall, Belmond, IA; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, her siblings, son-in-law (Clyde Hall), and other family members and close personal friends. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, Iowa.
