Julia Hess, 90, of Iowa Falls and formerly of Dows, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Hansen Family Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Private family burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, October 22 at the Woodley Funeral Home. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Julia and her family.

Julia Helen Hess was born on April 22, 1928 to Walter and Jennie (Ploeger) Off. She grew up in the Geneva, Iowa area where she attended school. Following that time she graduated from Ellsworth Community College with a certificate in teaching. On June 23, 1949 Julia was united in marriage to Robert E. Hess of Williams, Iowa. They settled on a farm north of Dows, where they raised their four children.

In 1979 the couple built their home in the town of Dows, retiring from the farm due to Robert’s health. Julia owned and operated Dows Variety Store for several years. She was active in her church and community. In 2010 they made the decision to move to Iowa Falls and reside at Cedar Ridge.

Julia Hess is survived by a son, Duane (Mary Kaye) Hess of Dows, Iowa; three daughters, LeAnn (John) Snyder of Dows, Iowa, Patricia (Denny) Kuhlers of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Lori (Howard) Hoffman of Johnston, Iowa; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers: Herman (Lavonne) Off and Harley (Harriet) Off both of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Larry Off of St. George, Utah and a sister-in-law, Miriam Off of Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty seven years, Robert; her parents; her brothers, Jacob and Robert; a sister, Lucille in infancy; sisters in-law, Rosalee Off and Alice Off and a son-in-law, Jeff Schram.
