Rosemary Lou Beer was born April 10, 1927 on a farm near Corwith to Ethel White and Robert Beer. She attended school in Corwith where she enjoyed softball. She married Maurice Devine in 1944. To this union, five children were born: Timothy Maurice, Mary Susan, Kathleen Ann, Patricia Kaye and Elizabeth Jean. They farmed near Corwith and enjoyed playing cards and camping. In 1969, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary; Maurice died in 1973. She continued to farm on her own; and then in 1976, she married George Assink and they continued to farm together until they retired. They enjoyed golfing and spending time at their cabin on Lake Cornelia. George died in 1999.
She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the H.O.M.E club. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, dancing, walking, and gardening. She was proud to be a ‘farmer.’ In 2010 due to failing health, she moved to Des Moines to an assisted living facility where she remained until her death.
Preceding her in death were husband, Maurice and husband, George; her parents, an infant granddaughter, and her brothers-in-law, Ed Nall and James Devine. She is survived by her children: Tim (Karen) Devine, Sue (Harold) Dixon, Kathy (Gordon) Jeskey, Pat (Paul) Kirstein and Jean (Jerry) Campbell; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; her sister Doris Nall; brother Bob (Karen) Beer; sister-in-law Catherine Devine; and brother-in-law, Steve Devine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
