November 28, 1921 ---- October 4, 2018

Arden Hills, Minnesota - Born in Thor, Iowa on November 28, 1921, Laurine Joyce Nelson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout her life, Laurine consistently embodied the sign she hung in her window that read, "Live gracefully."

Laurine passed away on October 4, 2018. Laurine was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, her husband Herbert B. Nelson and her daughter Joen Marie Szypulski. She is succeeded by five of her children: Julene Pettis; Bruce Nelson; Brenda Grewell; Terry Nelson and Naomi Nelson; her ten grandchildren, and her six great-grandchildren.

Dedicated to her faith, Laurine had an instinct and deep desire to always serve-first. Laurine served on the mission field in Zululand, South Africa and continued her service leadership as she empowered and inspired the women in the community at Bethlehem Luthern Church in St. Cloud with her empathy, her humility, integrity and grace.

Laurine's faith never diminished as she grew in age. The very night that Laurine found her path to heaven she asked that she could be wheeled into the room of her neighbor at her facility in Minneapolis. She was concerned that her neighbor did not look good at dinner and wanted to check in on her. Laurine prayed with and sang hymns with Mary that night; and it was that night that Laurine went to bed and woke up in the morning in heaven! It comes as no surprise that God's last appointment for Laurine on earth, was to minister to and serve another.

Destined to survive for generations Laurine spread her infectious spirit with her family. Laurine had a remarkable way of being present to and connecting with each and every one of her grandchildren. It was with sheer delight that grandma provided the rest of us (not in the know!) with updates on the grandchildrens' lives. From rolling kringla in her kitchen, to playing hockey in the street in front of her home, Laurine will forever be remembered for the joy-filled family get-togethers at grandma's house. She is the tie that binds this Nelson "Clan!"

Laurine lovingly gave herself to everyone she encountered with a full servant-heart, with delightful humor and amazing grace. Those of us blessed by Laurine have become wiser, healthier, more faithful, freer, and more joyful and more like servants ourselves.

A CELEBRATION OF LAURINE'S LIFE will be held at: 11:00 am Saturday 10/13/2018 : In the Fellowship Hall at Presbyterian Homes, Johanna Shores The Gables,3220 Lake Johanna Blvd. Arden Hills, MN 55112

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Masibumbane ("Let us unite to work together") an organization tied to the mission family that is still at work in South Africa.
